It’s Berries in the Snow’s 5th Bloganniversary! I can’t believe that it is 5 years ago that I started this blog. Back then, I never thought that anyone will be reading my reviews. In first line, I wanted to have a space to write down my personal experience with asian beauty products and beauty products in general that I tested myself. Shortly before I wrote my first blog post I was looking for a BB cream that would suit my skin tone, without being too heavy and clogging on my troubled skin at that point. After some online research I read my first review about a Korean BB cream from the brand Missha. I was so intrigued that I looked up more reviews for the BB cream, and finally ordered my first asian beauty product on ebay.

5th Bloganniversary

This BB cream was exactly what I was looking for, and, driven by that positive experience, I started to look for other skin care products from Missha. But it was not easy to find many English reviews at that time…and even fewer German ones. And that was the time, when I decided to write down my own very first “review”. It was not a professional one, and neither a long one, simply a “here, look at this product, and this is my impression”. Some time later I added a few more sentences and an ingredients list to the post and some other of my first reviews. When looking back at these first posts (I haven’t deleted them), they are not very informative to be honest. If you are curious, here is a link to my first review on Berries in the Snow. I sometimes thought about deleting these old posts and simply redo the reviews, but on the other hand they have a personal value to me, and they reflect the way that my blog has changed over the past years. Apart from the text, that became more informative (I hope so at least), I was also trying to improve my poor photography skills over the years. I went from “simply take a picture of the product on your desk”, to “white background and product pictures only” first. Then, I started to pay attention to social media, especially Instagram, and my mind was blown...all these pretty pictures! Flatlays were getting big on Instagram, and since my pictures were basically boring flatlays already I tried and I am still trying to improve as much as I can.

What did change in the 5 years for bloggers generally? In my opinion, blogging became widely accepted and known in the past years. There are people who can make their living on it, and I’m happy to see that. But, this makes it harder for small bloggers, too. If you want to be noticed, and you want that your opinion on a certain product is read and spread, it takes so much more effort than some years ago. If you get paid for your effort, you probably are more happy to do so. But most bloggers are not paid for it. They spend their free-time on advertising their writings and work. Many bloggers are utilized by brands as a (mostly cheaper) way to advertise a product. I started blogging in order to spread my honest opinion and experience on a certain product, and until now I was able to hold up to it luckily, and many of the other asian beauty bloggers I discovered throughout the years are doing the same. But yet, the amount of people who start blogging and buying a ton of followers and likes on social media channels, simply to have a higher reach and be noticed by brands, has highly increased, too. After 5 years of blogging I still do not have reached these (insane) numbers, as some ‘newer’ ones have. This makes me feel demotivated sometimes, for all the work that it put into this blog, although I know on the other hand, these are only numbers.

Would I like to change something in future? Of course! I think it is human to need a change once in a while. I think that many things can still be improved. I would like to write more about the ingredients, and I would like to make more professional pictures, and make my blog design more modern, too…But, as with many things in life, time is my limiting factor. Working a full-time job makes it really hard to be motivated. There are times, when my free time is so limited, that I do not want to spend it on blogging, but rather on living my life and enjoying my family and friends, and also take time for my other hobbies. Blogging started as one of my hobbies, but the more professional and perfect you want to be, the more it feels like a second job, too. And it needs a lot of attention and time!

First of all, I want to thank YOU! You are reading my blog, maybe only stumbled upon it by chance. Some have returned to read more, and even leave comments occasionally. I’m more that happy about every single one, and therefore many thanks to everyone! I’m also very grateful for all the interaction on my social media channels. Thank you for all the likes and comments there! Also, my apologies for being always so slow on responding, although I’m trying to improve myself! Review: Swanicoco Bio Ferment F Fermentation Snail Care Skintoner and Emulsion

Two things that always get my attention in skin care products are fermented ingredients and snail secretion filtrate. I love both of these in my skin care products and I feel that they do the trick on my skin to make it happy all over. A while ago I was selected for the second round of the Swanicoco Swan Program, and they send me a huge package containing a ton of skin care products, including the Swanicoco Bio Ferment F Fermentation Snail Care Skintoner and Emulsion.

Swanicoco is a Korean brand that stared off its business by creating naturally fermented soaps. Now, they have a huge range of products including skin care and make up products, but still all the products share the same believe in natural ingredients excluding artificial and chemical components. Swanicoco uses grains, fruits, herbs and oriental medicine materials as raw materials for their fermentation. By fermenting the products they can be much more easily absorbed into the skin, help retaining moisture and improve damaged skin. They state that instead of using purified water like in most existing cosmetics, Swanicoco has replaced the water with ferment filtrate. Additionally, pigments, synthetic perfumes, chemical preservatives, alcohol, mineral oil, paraben and benzophenones have been excluded from their products. Oh, and they are also free from animal testing!

The brand name Swanicoco is derived from the word “swan” and the term “coco”. “Swan” referrs to the elegance and feminine aspects of the bird we probably all know. “Coco” refers to the coconut, representing the natural ingredients. In the logo of the brand you will find the word “natural”, which refers to the brand as being a natural cosmetics brand. There is also a peony blossom in the middle of the logo that stands for richness and splendor.

The Swanicoco Bio Ferment F Fermentation Snail Care Skintoner and Emulsion is a perfect basic skin care combination. It is hypo-allergenic, has soothing and calming properties. The combination of fermented ingredients and snail secretion filtrate helps to recover the skin and transit to a new skin care routine. It recovers and provides sufficient moisture to the skin. Snail Secretion filtrate claims to be rich in hyaluronic acid and antioxidants and thus help our skin to regenerate stimulating the formation of collagen, elastin and dermal components that repair the signs of photoaging. Also, it claims to minimize the damage generated by free radicals that are responsible for premature skin aging (there is a wikipedia entry for snail mucus, too). The snail mucus is not obtained by harming the snails, but it is collected is so-called snail farms. Ferment filtrate is nutrients-rich. It contains many vitamins, amino acids and proteins and helps to improve the moisture level of the skin.

Swanicoco Bio Ferment F Fermentation Snail Care Skintoner

The Swanicoco Bio Ferment F Fermentation Snail Care Skintoner is a hydrating and soothing gel-type toner. It comes in a large bottle containing 120 ml and will last you for quite some time. The hard plastic packaging has the typicxal packaging we are used to from Swanicoco: simple with many information and a kind of medical/science-y design. The toner has a milky color and a floral scent. It absorbs fast though and fells refreshing on the skin. After application the skin feels hydrated and plumped and feels nice upon touch.

Apart from snail secretion filtrate and fermented ingredients the toner also contains licorice extract, collagen, hyaluronic acid, ginseng extract, and so many more ingredients worth mentioning!

Swanicoco Bio Ferment F Fermentation Snail Care Emulsion

The Swanicoco Bio Fement F Fermentation Snail Care Emulsion has similar properties as the toner and many of the same ingredients. The two products work perfectly together, and also the emulsion comes in an identical bottle packaging containing 120 ml. You have to look and read what’s on the bottle if you have both. I sometimes grabbed blindly and reached out for the emulsion first, before having used the toner. The emulsion is a light textured cream, which is perfect as daily moisturizer, leaving no greasiness or traces after application. It has the same scent as the toner.

Also here the ingredients are mainly targeting moisturizing and soothing the skin. The main difference between the toner and the emulsion in my opinion lies in the fermented extracts which are either from Saccharomyces, Lactobacillus, Aspergillus, or Bacillus.

I love how great the Swanicoco Bio Ferment F Fermentation Snail Care Emuslion and Skintoner work together! They both provide moisture and are soothing and therefore perfect for stressed skin. Nevertheless, both products contain so many great ingredients, that they also have properties that support the elasticity and nutrition of the skin. I can imagine that this is perfect for recovering stressed skin and for a transition into a new skin care routine. I also really like the huge packaging contains 120 ml each. This will make sure to last for a while. Unfortunately, both look very similar in their design, so you have to look properly what you are grabbing. My skin worked well with these two products and I didn’t experience any negative reactions. Still, everyone’s skin might react differently, so in case you will be trying out these products, please do a patch test before starting to use it, just to be sure. They offer 6 different types of headphones, both Bluetooth and regular headphones and all of them come in different colors, reaching from classic black and white to pink, red and blue. All of the headphones look very stylish and suit both female and male customers.

Almost a year ago I received the Sudio Vasa Blå headphones. I decided for the white colored bluetooth and in-ear headphones because I loved the rose-gold details of the headphones and I never tried bluetooth headphones before. I tested these really thoroughly together with my boyfriend and we both really enjoyed using these headphones during this time, and even now.

The first thing that was a pleasant surprise when I received the headphones was the equipment which came together with the headphones: Of course a manual, USB-wire, and different sizes for the earphone in-ear plug had to be offered, but it also included a leather case and a cable clip. I really like the fact that it comes with 4 different additional sizes for the in-ear plug. Usually, when I’m using in-ear headphones I use the smallest or the middle size and yet they keep falling off. This was the size which is in-between and it keeps staying in my ear all time.

The leather case and the cable clip are also perfect for taking these headphones outside. First I though I would not use the clip, but actually I did and it really helped to not lose my headphones during hectic train changes :D I’m using an android phone, but my boyfriend has an iPhone. Neither of us experienced problems while trying to connect the headphones to our mobiles. It was also very easy to connect the Sudio Vasa Blå to my laptop.

Since my boyfriend plays music himself and has some experience with sound quality I really trusted his opinion for the headphones. That resulted in the fact that I didn’t see my headphones for several months because he was keeping them all the time. Finally, his verdict was, that the Sudio Vasa Blå are great for listening to pop music, for example. It has especially good bass frequencies and heights and are much better in quality than his regular mobile headphones.

The Sudio Vasa Blå last for up to 8 hours when charged fully, and also charging is done super quickly. There are two opinions for charging: quick charge in 10 minutes or full charge in 120 mines. In stand-by they are supposed to last up to 10 days. The bluetooth used is 4.1 and it has a reach of up to 10 meters. Remote and microphone are part of the headphone cable, which is made from sweat-proof material. Although it has a white color and we were carrying it around almost everywhere it still looks pretty good.

My boyfriend and mine thorough test of the Sudio Vasa Blå convinced us about the quality of these headphones. They are not only pretty and stylish to look at, but they also offer a good sound quality and are comfortable to wear and use. Review: Swanicoco Vita Triple Cover Swan CC Pact Black

I love cushions! At first I never thought that I would be using cushions too often and now I’m neglecting all my other BB/CC creams/foundations in tubes for my easy-to-use cushion foundations/bb creams. Swanicoco Vita Triple Cover Swan CC Pact is not the first cushion I tried, but yet, after having it used to its end I can definitely say that it has been one of my favourites!

First of all, Swanicoco is a Korean brand that stared off its business by creating naturally fermented soaps. Now, they have a huge range of products including skincare and make up products, but still all the products share the same believe in natural ingredients excluding artificial and chemical components. Swanicoco uses grains, fruits, herbs and oriental medicine materials as raw materials for their fermentation. By fermenting the products they can be much more easily absorbed into the skin, help retaining moisture and improve damaged skin. They state that instead of using purified water like in most existing cosmetics, Swanicoco has replaced the water with ferment filtrate. Additionally, pigments, synthetic perfumes, chemical preservatives, alcohol, mineral oil, paraben and benzophenones have been excluded from their products. Oh, and they are also free from animal testing!

Swanicoco Vita Triple Cover Swan CC Pact is a multifunction make up product combined with ingredients which are beneficial for the skin. It also contains fermented ingredients and various fruit and plant-based ingredients. Also, the cushion has SPF30/ PA ++ and gives some sun protection, too. Usually, despite the sun protection stated on cushions or foundations I would still advise you to use regular sunscreen below your makeup. The layer of makeup you apply is usually very thin and that results in a weak sun protection – if at all.

The ingredients are listed on the cardboard box, but only in Korean. Here are the ingredients in English:

I always love the details of the cardboard boxes of Swanicoco products, with all those tiny symbols. Even the lash of the cardboard lid contains some of them.

The Swanicoco Vita Triple Cover Swan CC Pact itself comes in a black cushion compact. It looks pretty much like all cushion pacts look like, with a application puff and a mirror inside the lid. The product is available in two shades, 21 and 23, I decided to go for 23 which usually suits my skin tone best.

The difference to other cushions is the core of it: Unlike other cushions this one doesn’t have a make up soaked sponge inside, but a pressure plate with holes, that release a custom amount of the makeup by pressing it down.

Above you see how it looks like before pressing down the plate and below you see how the make up is released through the holes.

The Swanicoco Vita Triple Cover Swan CC Pact is designed for coverage. It is supposed to cover up freckles and darkness and can be used for troubled skin aswell. It has a formula with moisture balance, so it can be worn by oily skintypes, too. The formula is a creamy matte one containing moisture particles which make your skin glow. I would consider it a semi matte finish.

The swatch looks a bit more yellowish than my skin tone, but after applying it to my skin below you can see that it looks very naturally like my own skin color. Actually, I’m probably the wrong person to judge this cushion in terms of coverage, because I don’t have much of a troubled skin thanks to my thorough skincare. Yet, my skin tends to have some redness around the nose and cheeks and in summer I have some freckles.The cushion manages to cover up the redness and my freckles very nicely. Also, it helps to reduce the appearance of my pores on my nose as you can see below. The picture before was taken after my regular skincare, by the way. Usually my skin does not glow that much :D But you can also see that finish after applying the cushion keeps the glow and even adds some sparkles here and there despite its semi matte finish. Also, it doesn’t get cakey throughout the day and looks like freshly applied for several hours before it starts to fade out.

All in all, I’m very happy with the Swanicoco Vita Triple Cover Swan CC Pact Black. I probably never used up a cushion that fast either and I’m really sad that it is already finished. ~~Also, I think it doesn’t have any refills. At leat I couldn’t figure out how to remove the core part of the cushion pact.~~ I saw refills for it as well, and it is available in two shades, 21 and 23. There is also another version of the cushion available in white. The retail price lies around 30 US$. I received this cushion for reviewing purpose from Swanicoco. Unboxing: InStyle Box Summer Edition 2017

Let’s have another unboxing of a summer themed box before it has passed completely :D I’m happy to have the chance to show you the content of the InStyle Box Summer Edition 2017, which was provided to me for reviewing purpose. Like the Instyle Box I showed last time >>here<<, also this box was packed heavily with awesome products in my opinion. This post will be picture-heavy due to the loads of products that were included, my apologies in advance >_<

As the name already suggest this box is dedicated to summer and to products that bring us in a summer mood and are useful during this season. And as if they knew, they already predicted the ups and downs of summer in Germany. You must know that the weather here is not really reliable in summer, so our beauty routine has to be adapted to every possible situation :D

That said I will start with the beauty products first:

OGX Argan Oil of Morocco Shampoo and Conditioner

These travel sized bottles of the OGX Argan Oil of Morocco Shampoo and Conditioner are perfect for vacation. I already bought them last year and liked the products a lot. They make the hair smooth and manageable even in dry climate. They contain argan oil of Morocco, which also protects the hair from UV rays and heat damage, by giving deep nutrition. I used both of these during my vacation and it was the perfect size for the 2 weeks showering daily. These are available from your drugstore or amazon. The fullsize retails for around 8 €.

Douglas Make-Up Mattissim Lipstick

The Mattissim Lipstick by Douglas comes in the summer color called “Senorita”, an orange hued red shade. This liquid lipstick has a velvet matte texture without stickiness. A soft doe-foot applicator helps to create your look. I love the lid, which is covered in black velvet. It retails for 9.99 €.

Aqua Colonia Pink Pepper & Grapefruit

Solid soap becomes very handy during vacation time. Usually, I’m using liquid soap at home, but the benefit of having solid soap that cannot spill inside your luggage is definitely a plus here. The Aroma Soap from Aqua Colonia in Pink Pepper and Grapefruit is a perfect scent for warm weather. The spiciness of the better together with the freshness of grapefruit make a perfect combination. The soap retails for 7.38€.

Treaclemoon Soft Watermint Rain

I have resisted to buy this new line called Watermint Rain from Treaclemoon for weeks, since it released and luckily the InStyle Box contains the Body Milk of this line. This refreshing body milk is absorbed quickly into the skin and is easily to spread. I love the packaging design with the mint color and the mushrooms. You can get the products from your local drugstore or amazon (around 10 €).

Comodyness Urban Cosmetics Self-Tanning Body Glove

I need to try this yet but is sounds very interesting, since it is a glove and not a spray or cream. It is free from parabens and allergens and promises a natural and uniform body color for all skincolors. Maybe I can get rid of my tan lines with this glove. One piece retails for 5 €. You can get a set of 3 for 15 €.

L’Oréal Botanicals Fresh Care Geranium Glow-Elixir

A perfect fit, considering the fact that I received shampoo and conditioner from Botanicals Fresh Care in my previously unboxed Barabara Box! The product comes in a spraying bottle and contains oil from Geranium, soy and coconut to help your hair fix its glow. The products from Botanicals are without parabens, silicons and dyes. The spray can be used on toweldry hair or in between. It retails for 9 €.

Avon Mark. Gel Shine Nail Enamel

This nail polish from Avon gives your nails a gel-look without the need of an UV lamp. The shade “Fabulous” is a dark pink, perfect for summer. There are 33 colors available for the Mark. Gel Shine Nail Enamels.

Vandini Hydrating Face Mask

This Face Mask containing hyaluronic acid and caviar helps to retain hydration of the skin and makes your skin smoother and plumped. Each sachet can be used for two applications. I haven’t tried products from Vandini yet but I’ve heard good things about it. Looking forward to try this mask. This mask retails for 6€.

Let’s turn to the fashion and accessories products from the box:

Rapunzel of Sweden Magic Rubberbands

I love these kind of curly hairbands. And since you never can have enough hairbands I was super happy to see 5 colors of these included in the box. The brand Rapunzel of Sweden was new to me, but they are popular for hair extensions in Sweden. The set of 5 retails for 3.99€.

Levi’s Pins

Levi’s is not only a brand for denim, but also do they now offer pins. After the comeback of patches on clothing pins seem to be the next big thing to decorate your favourite jacket. The box included two pins from Levi’s.

Flamingo Luggage Tag

Another of my favourites from this box: I love this flamingo luggage tag. It was my perfect companion during my travel and I had it attached to my suitcase all time during the weeks in Mexico.

The food item in the summer box was Corn Chico Popcorn Magic Mix. I love popcorn, and this one was no exception and gone in a minute :D

What I really like about the InStyle Box is the versatility and the thorough magazine with the information. The magazine also includes a bunch of coupons for various online shops and even a Starbucks Coupon. The box really has a great value for its price. The Box is available on shop.instyle.de for 29.90€ and comes with 3 e-paper versions of the InStyle magazine. The InStyle Box is released every three months.

I talked about the newly launched Barbara Box earlier this year and I loved the concept and the products so much and was totally convinced about this new concept of box. Today I will show you the content of the second Barbara Box, dedicated to beautiful summer moments that you can share with your best friends:

The Barbara Box ambassador is also the donor of the name, a German celebrity called Barbara Schöneberger. The box is not only advertised by her, but also she selects the products. The topic of the boxes revolve around “Girls Night” with your best friend(s)and contain food, drinks, beauty, decoration, games…so as you see the Barbara Box seems to be very versatile.

The box is not a monthly box but is released every three months and comes together with a print of the Barbara magazine, a magazine curated by Barbara Schöneberger aswell and addressing women in their 30s.

Let’s see what we have inside the summer-themed second Barbara Box:

First of all the box was super heavy and I discover quickly what was the reason behind it. There was drink included: Ramazzotti Aperitivo Rosato together with Schweppes Indian Tonic Water. Enough to make two Summer Drinks and it was really delicious and refreshening, too.

Summertime is also usually the time when we neglate our skincare, because we don’t want to put too many products on our face. Yet the box includes Tavana The Pearl High Performance Boost Day Cream to remind us that the skin still needs some pampering.

But it is not only our face we have to care about, but also our hair and body. For haircare the box comes with the new L’Oréal Botanicals Fresh Care Camelina Shampoo and Conditioning Balm. This new line contains botanical ingredients and no silicons, parabens, or dyes. Camelina oil helps to smoothen and detangle frizzy hair.

For the body we have the Rituals Cosmetics Express Your Soul Shower Oil, a limited edition that comes in a green/yellow colored bottle for extra summer vibes. The design was created by MadC. I haven’t used it yet, but oil sounds like a perfect treat for dry summer skin.

My personal highlight was a delicate lucky bracelet from iCrush which was included in the box. This Mandela bracelet is symbolizing harmony and can be used by yourself, or you can give it to a friend to celebrate your friendship.

As extra there was a Barbara magazine included and post cards with fun slogans. I personally preferred the post cards from the first box because I loved the black and white design.Last but not least a makeup pouch was included, perfect for summer time and travel season! It says “Kriegsbemalung”, which means “war paint” in English.

A total of 9 products including the magazine and the postcards. Although the first box contained more products in total, this box has a very good value. While the last box also contained some food and a game, this one focused on skincare/body/spa. I like that the content was different from the previous box and I’m still convinced that this subscription box is one of the most versatile boxes I’ve tested so far.

Barbara Box is released every three months, which makes it even more appalling in my opinion. The box retails for 29.95 €, but there are also options for a yearly or half-year order with 4 or 2 boxes, respectively. Considering the prize of the included products in the first two boxes it makes up far the retail price definitely. I’m really curious how they will continue in the future. Wishtrend has a newly launched product again, called Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water. This watery preparation toner is applied directly after cleansing and acts as mild chemical exfoliator. I will write a review soon, but I can already tell you that if you have avoided BHAs and AHAs this might be a consideration since it is much more gentle.

Another recently launched product which I reviewed a couple of days ago is Klairs Midnight Blue Youth Activating Drop. This watery serum reminds me more of a first essence, and also has to be applied early in the skincare routine. I’m super excited to try the magnolia line from I’m from for myself. I love the scent of magnolia a lot! apart from the Magnolia Wake Essence there is also a Magnolia Sleep Mask.

Another newly launched product which I’m currently trying is the Klairs Midnight Blue Youth Activating Drop. This watery serum reminds me more of a first essence, and also has to be applied early in the skincare routine.
