Review: Catrice Aqua Ink Lip Liner & Aqua Ink-In-Gloss

6. November 2017

// MAKE UP / BEAUTY / LIPS //

Earlier this year there have been several product launches from Catrice Cosmetics that were quite appalling to me because their inspirations came from asian beauty products. I talked about the Catrice Lip Cushion before and today I will show you the Catrice Aqua Ink Lip Liner and Catrice Aqua Ink-In-Gloss:

Catrice Aqua Ink

Catrice therefore called out for the term “asianification”, which means the creation of products that are inspired by the technology and ingredients used in the asian beauty industry. Some inspirations come from the very popular cushion products, but also lip tints which are super popular in Korea. I own two Catrice Aqua Ink Lip Liners and a Gloss from their Aqua Ink collection, and I will share the swatches and my impression on these products with you today.

Catrice Aqua Ink

Catrice Aqua Ink Lip Liner

The Catrice Aqua Ink Lip Liners are lip liners with a felt-type ball-shaped applicator. These lip liners are creating a semi-permanent tint effect and are water-based according to their description. The lip liners are available in 6 shades and are vegan, too.

Catrice Aqua Ink

I have shade 050 ” Don’t Copy My Poppy” and 060 “I Feel InspiRED Today”, the two boldest shades from the collection. The Catrice Aqua Ink Lip Liners come in a pencil shape in a sleek black design with adjusted colors for the cap and bottom of the pen. They feel smoother than a regular felt pen upon application, but swatch very vibrant. Once applied the color is rub proof and doesn’t budge. But if you do not fade them out right after application, they will start to bleed out while freshly applied. Once dry they do not bleed out any longer but stay at place.

Catrice Aqua Ink

The difference between the colors of the two shades is not very huge once I apply them on my lips. Below you can see the two colors applied to my lips. On the right side I applied 050 and on the left side I applied 060. The finish of the lip liner is matte and it gives a very long-lasting stain on your lips. It will fade after eating and drinking all day long, but the hint of color will still be visible on your lips.

Catrice Aqua Ink

Catrice Aqua Ink-In-Gloss

The second lip product is the Catrice Aqua Ink-In-Gloss, and as you can tell from the name already, it is a gloss which gives a semi-permanent stain to the lips. Similar to the Lip Liners this product is water-based and vegan. It comes in 4 different shades. Moreover, it has a lightweight finish and contains Glycerin and feels moist on the lips and doesn’t dry them out.

Catrice Aqua Ink

This here is the shade 020 “Jump Into The Red River”, a classic red shade again. Typically for a gloss it comes with a angled sponge applicator. Surprisingly, the swatched product is super vibrant in color and not what you expect a gloss to be. Unlike the lip liners this product doesn’t dry down matte but stays glossy and moist on the lips. Also this stain is very long-lasting and despite fading out throughout the day by drinking and eating it will still leave a hint of color on your lips.

Catrice Aqua Ink

Below you can see some pictures of the two products on my lips again. The upper one is the Catrice Aqua Ink Lip Liner in shade 060. What you can see in this picture is, that this dark red shade is quite tricky upon application, because it tends to appear patchy if not applied with a lightweight hand. The second point is, that you have to be careful on the borders of your lips in order to avoid feathering. I start to use it inside out when I’m using it on my whole lips. I wouldn’t use it only to frame my lips though. The lower picture shows the Catrice Aqua Ink-In-Gloss. Apart from having a very good pigmentation for a glossy product this gloss might accentuate dry areas of your lips. For a best result it would be important to exfoliate your lips before applying (which is generally a good rule to follow, and shame on me because I always end up to forget it).

Catrice Aqua Ink

The Catrice Aqua Ink lip products might not be perfect, but they are generally a very affordable and long-lasting choice. Both products have really great staining properties, but need some time to get the perfect way of applying them without patches or feathering…but, once you know how to deal with these minor points they are a great choice for every day, especially if you are not the type of person who runs to the toilet to reapply lipstick every 2 hours.

The Catrice Auqa Ink Lip Liner retails for 2,99€.

The Catrice Auqa Ink-In-Gloss retails for 3,49€.

Review: Catrice Lip Cushion

22. May 2017

Recently, there have been several product launches from Catrice Cosmetics that I really loved. One of their inspirations for their new products comes from asian beauty products, which makes me -as asian beauty product lover – super happy. I’ve already been excited when the first oil cleansers and sheet masks launched by western brands appeared at the drugstores and now it is even makeup. Here is my impression of the Catrice Lip Cushion:

Catrice Lip Cushion

Catrice is calling out for the term “asianification”, which means the creation of products that are inspired by the technology and ingredients used in the asian beauty industry. At the moment cushion products are one of the focus points. Apart from cushion foundations cushions have been used with asian beauty products for all kinds of makeup: lip cushions, eye liner cushions, blush cushion…Catrice Cosmetics has chosen the lip cushion amongst other things.

Catrice Lip Cushion

Catrice Lip Cushion is a lip gloss with medium pigmentation which is applied via a jumbo sponge applicator. There are a total of 6 colors available. Here I show you shade 050 A Little Soulfruit:

Catrice Lip Cushion

This lip gloss contains avocado oil to moisturize the lips and leaves – as typical for a gloss – a glossy finish on the lips. If you remove the cap you will spot the sponge applicator. It is still white and unused.

Catrice Lip Cushion

If you want to apply the lip gloss you have to twist the bottom part of the Catrice Lip Cushion Pencil.

Catrice Lip Cushion

For the first application I twisted 2-3 times until I saw that the sponge gets slowly soaked with the tint.

Catrice Lip Cushion

The sponge tip is very soft upon application and is very easy to use.

Catrice Lip Cushion

And this is how the Catrice Lip Cushion in 050 A Little Soulfruit looks when applied on my lips. Below I also show you the swatch of the product on my arm. Since it is a lip gloss it still has that sticky feeling to it, to my personal dislike. I prefer tints and lipsticks over the sticky texture, but on the other hand your lips won’t feel dry when applying the lip gloss and it also gives some more volume to the lips than tints and lipsticks.

Catrice Lip Cushion

I’m happy about seeing more products that are inspired from asian beauty trend. The Catrice Lip Cushion clearly remind me of the lip cushions by Etude House. Unlike the Catrice Lip Cushion the ones from Etude House were no lip gloss, bur creamy lip paint. That caused that the sponge applicator was after a while completely blocked by the dried product. Other brands started to provide their products with a second applicator sponge which you could exchange, one the first one was to dirty or unusable. I would wish that Catrice also offers these additional sponges at some point. It would also help to keep the product more hygienic. But considering the price of only 4.99 € each you cannot complain to be honest.

Did you try the Catrice Lip cushion already? What are your thoughts of “asianification”?

Review: Catrice Denim Divine Limited Edition

1. May 2016

Summer and Spring are usually the seasons when denim returns to our focus in fashion. Therefore, Catrice released a new limited edition makeup collection called Catrice Denim Divine. I received some of their products for reviewing purpose and I wanted to share these products with you today.

Catrice Denim Divine

“Jeans – a living fashion legend. From the robust worker’s trousers of the 19th century to today’s universal look. Jeans have consistently adapted to the contemporary movements over the past 50 years and have therefore become one of the social must-haves. No other fabric is as versatile and is used by designers as often as denim. The runway pictures of the summer collections confirm that jumpsuits, tight-fitting denim dresses combined with blue jeans are the trends of the season. The new Limited Edition “Denim Divine” by CATRICE completes the look with matching beauty products from mid April to mid May 2016. Denim Love – by CATRICE.”

Reading the description of this collection by Catrice already brings many fashion wishlists into my mind containing different jeans clothing. Catrice is a drugstore beauty brand available in many countries. Their products are inspired by the Fashion trends of the world’s capitals and have a good quality despite the affordable price. The brand is against animal testing for their cosmetics products, too.

Catrice Denim Divine

The Catrice Denim Divine Collection is a Limited Edition. I don’t know how long the products will be available, but if you like them it is good to check out your local drugstore quickly. The collection consists of 6 different products and apart from the products I’m showing here there is also an eyeshadow palette and liquid eyeliner available.

Catrice Denim Divine

Catrice Denim Divine Nail Lacquers

I will start with the nail polishes from this collection:

“Five Pockets. Five Colours. Five nail polishes are waiting to complement the perfect jeans outfit: deep midnight blue, fresh coral, bright red, subtle almond brown and soft nude. The formula of the nail lacquers stands for extraordinary coverage, long durability and a beautiful finish with or without effects. The professional brush allows a particularly simple and smooth application. The square packaging is also a true highlight with its authentic jeans embossment on the lid.”

There are 5 different colors available C01 Dark Denim Blue, C02 Fabricot, C03 Women’s Cut, C04 Comfort Fit, and C05 Gold Miners. I didn’t receive the red nail polish C03 (unfortunately), but you can see the other colors below. I really like Gold Miners and Dark Denim Blue and I guess they fit together pretty nicely. The brush applicator is a short one, but still the nail polish can be applied easily. I still prferr the longer brushes though. Also, you have to be careful not to have too much of the polish on the brush to have an even coat. The nail polishes are pretty opaque already with one stroke, as you can see in the images.

Catrice Denim Divine

Catrice Denim Divine Luminous Lip Gloss Comfort Fit

“For all Shapes. Smooth, glossy results are always a good thing. The semi-transparent, light texture provides the lips with a slight shimmer in a choice of fresh coral or subtle nude – ideal for a summery bronze look.”

There are two lip glosses available in the Catrice Denim Divine Collection, a coral and a nude shade (C01 Women’s Cut and C02 Comfort Fit). I received the nude one. It comes with the typical angled applicator and has a golden7nude shimmer.

Catrice Denim Divine

Catrice Denim Divine Powder Blush Stone Blushed and Bronzer Hot TANts

“Icon meets Colour. Create a summer complexion with this powder blush in a fresh peach tone. Easy to apply and blend, it emphasizes the cheekbones beautifully. The natural-looking finish is silky matt. A fabulous eye-catcher: the attractive jeans embossment on the surface of the texture.”

The blush from this collection is a very pretty pink shaded blush. It says that it is peach, but I would call it rather pinkish. It has a matte finish and a good pigmentation, too! Also, I really like the packaging here, although it is really simple. Same for the Bronzer:

“Sand Washed. Fine bronzing powder with a matt finish for a naturally tanned look. Can also be used for contouring the facial features. Thanks to the unique jeans embossment and rosé-golden packaging, this bronzer is a true must-have that shouldn’t be missing in any beauty bag.”

A perfect bronzer for spring and summer with a nice glow and reddish brown shade. It fits nicely to blue colors and jeans. Also here, the pigmentation is really nice and I like the shade of this bronzer a lot.

Catrice Denim Divine

All together, the Catrice Denim Divine Collection represents nicely the denim vibes and delivers a matching color range of makeup products. If you like any of the colors from the swatches I showed I can advice you to take a look at the collection in real, if this limited edition is available in your country. And since Catrice is really affordable in terms of prices (few Euros here), why not give them a try?! My favoites from these products are the blush and the bronzer and I’ve been using them in the past days frequently. You can take a look at the the Catrice Denim Divine Collection >>here<<.

What do you think about this new collection from Catrice? Is there any products you would like to try?

Review: Missha The Style Tinted Jelly Lips

8. August 2014

// KBEAUTY / MAKE UP / AFFILIATe LINKS //

As soon as I knew that Missha had a German online shop I had to order some items, just to know how it feels not to wait 2 weeks or more for something you’ve ordered. I must say, it was awesome :D One of the products I bought is this Missha The Style Tinted Jelly Lips in “Sunny Coral”.

Missha The Style Tinted Jelly Lips

Missha is one of the worldwide famous Korean brands, especially their Missha M Perfect Cover BB cream is one of the most famous BB creams. They have a lot of online stores all over the world and are available in US/Canada, Australia and recently they even opened up an online store for Germany.  The products always come in a very luxurious looking packaging. Also here, the cardboard box is made of reflecting material. The design is very mature and elegant and I think that it can be liked by almost everyone. The packaging of Missha’s The Style Tinted Jelly Lips is also in a different color for each of the five colors available.

Missha The Style Tinted Jelly Lips

Apart from “Sunny Coral”, which I will review here, you can select between the shades “Pure Red”, “Swan Pink”, “Happy Pink” and “Fresh Mango”. The back side of the card box packaging contains the description of the product in English and Korean. This product is usable for 18 months after opening it.

Missha The Style Tinted Jelly Lips

The tint does contain beneficial ingredients like Shea Butter, Cupuacu Butter and Mango Extract. It is talc-free, mineral oil free, wax-free and phthalate-free, and does not contain ingredients derived from animals.  The tint itself comes in a soft plastic tube with a hard plastic cap. You have to twist the cap in order to open it, which makes it travel friendly, because it doesn’t accidentally get open in your purse (which occurred to me quite  often with other lip products :’D).

Missha The Style Tinted Jelly Lips

The applicator was new and unique to me. It is a brush with is hole in the middle. The product is squeezed out through that hole and dispenses itself on the brush. The brush itself is easy to use and allows to line your lips precisely. At the beginning it was hard to know how much product I had to squeeze out, but after a couple of times I got used to it and now I know how much pressure I need for preventing a mess :D

Missha The Style Tinted Jelly Lips

The tint itself is a jelly/glossy type of tint. It feels more like a gloss compared to other jelly type tints, like for example Witch’s Pouch Radiant Lolli Tint. The color is a nice and bright orange/coral color which is visible on nude skin tone/lips. You’ll also see below how it looks on my lips, which are more pigmented. The color isn’t visible so nicely anymore, but leaves a coral hue to the lips. It also makes the lips look a bit more plum. The feeling of the tint is very moisturizing. It doesn’t dry the lips out. But, since it is more a glossy type of product, it also feels a bit sticky. The staying power is on the shorter side, let’s say around two hours. The scent of the tint is fruity, but it has no taste.

Missha The Style Tinted Jelly Lips

Except of the fact that the color is only weak on my pigmented lips, I really like this product, especially the applicator was new for me. If you like lipgloss, you’ll like this one as well. I would like to try the darker colors of this range, perhaps they show off better on my lips. You can either buy this on Missha’s online shops. It is on sale for 8 US$ on the US Missha online store, or for 6.90 € on the German Missha online store. As much as I loved to order from a store located in Germany because of the fast delivery, the downside is, that they don’t give samples… Other than this you can get this tint at other korean cosmetics retaillers, like this from W2Bauty for 11.76 US$.
