Review: Shiseido Tsubaki Shampoo and Conditioner

Finally, after loving the Shiseido Tsubaki Shining Shampoo and Conditioner for more than a year I decided to write a review for it. I bought the fullsize 500 ml pump bottles for both products and recently my refills for both arrived. I’ve used a different shampoo for the last 2 months while waiting for my refills and now that I can finally continue with my beloved Tsubaki shampoo I realized again how much I do love it and how much nicer my hair feels when using it. Actually, I’ve never used one shampoo brand for such a long time and have been so happy with it before!

Shiseido Tsubaki Shampoo and Conditioner

Shiseido is one of the most famous high end brands in the world. I think everybody knows this japanese brand in some way. In Japan, Shiseido has a lot of sub branches, which also vary in their price range. They have cheaper sub branches and more expensive ones and also others with very cute designed products. The Shiseido Tsubaki haircare belongs to the more pricey products with simple and mature design. There are five versions of the Tsubaki haircare products, the Shining range or now called Extra Moist (red), the Damage Care range (white), the Damage Care Rich Premiere range (organge), the Volume Touch range (purple) and the Head Spa range (golden, I don’t know if this is availbale for the renewed versions). I was quite undecided which line to choose first, because my hair is thin, but frizzy and quite damaged and tends to splitt ends as well…I finally chose the red line because so many reviews were positive.

As I said, I took the risk and bought the fullsized bottles right away. Both the shampoo and the conditioner come in pump bottles, which I love! The cap with the pump attached can be removed and the bottles can be refilled if you want. You can also close and open the pump and so it can be used while travelling, too, if you want to carry 500 ml with you :D…

The two bottles came together as a value set and were packed in a plastic bag, typical packaging for japanese products. The back side of the plastic bag contained some Japanese description and so does the back side of the bottles. The ingredients are listed on COSDNA >>here<< (shampoo) and >>here<< (conditioner). The key ingredients of the Tsubaki haircare is of course “Tsubaki” or also called Camellia japonica. The oil is used in haircare not only as emollient, but also for smoothening the hair and making it shiny and nice. Camellia japonica oil is rich in oleic and linoleic acid and therefore perfect for hair nourishment.

The design of the two pump bottles is elegant and the color of the bottles is really a pretty red color. And although the bottles look quite similar you can know blindly which is the shampoo and which is the conditioner by touching the top of the pump. Recently, they renewed the design of the bottles and the design of the bottles is less round, but looks a bit more modern..I personally like the old design better. Although the material of the bottles is good quality plastic it doesn’t look cheap but really elegant. The shampoo has a semi-see-through bottle, so you know when it is time to buy a new refill.

Shiseido Tsubaki Shampoo and Conditioner

The Shiseido Tsubaki Shampoo and Conditioner have both an amazing scent. It is flowery and lasts while some time in your hair. The shampoo has a runny consitency. It has a light, shiny and milky/yellowish color and it is very efficient. I only need one to two pumps of the shampoo. When I still had my shorter hair one pump was enough. It creates nice and quite some foam while lathering it in your hair. Some reviews said that the shampoo is a bit drying. Compared to most european shampoos I didn’t have that feeling. In my opinion my hair feels already detangled while using the shampoo, but the conditioner works even more wonders. After using the creamy conditioner the hair feels super soft and detangled. I can eaily comb my hair and it feels so smooth and nice! As I said, the scent is so nice, too, and my hair feels better and less frizzy. I almost don’t have to straighten my bangs anymore ( I have natural wavy hair usually) and all in all my hair feels so much better than with the european drugstore shampoos. The only downside is that it is not really a cheap product. But at least you can buy refills, which are a bit cheaper. Below you can see the 350 ml refills for both the shampoo and the conditioner. As you can see, the refills are from the new version of the red shampoo. I don’t know if they chnaged the formula, I didn’t notice any significant differences yet, but if I will do, I will update this post immediately.

Shiseido Tsubaki Shampoo and Conditioner

All in all, these are great hair products! I can recommend the Shiseido Tsubaki Shampoo and Conditioner to everybody with dry and tangled and frizzy hair. The scent is nice, it makes the hair super soft and it nourishes the hair with Tsubaki oil. I bought my producs from ebay and I had good experience with the seller jaipfe. Conditioner and Shampoo in the new design are availbale for 36.16 US$ from this seller and each bottle contains 500 ml. The refills costs both together 24.14 US$ and contain 350 ml each.

  1. I’ve heard so many great things about this shampoo, but I’ve yet to try it. The price is what I love the most. Shiseido is such an expensive brand here in the US, but I found a website that specializes in selling Japanese products to the rest of the world and the price blew me away. It’s cheaper than the Redken that I used to swear by!

I love the tops, how the shampoo has notches on it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve ended up grabbing the conditioner first because my shampoo and conditioner bottles look the same.

  2. I get the Damage Care (white) and loved it also! The scent is really awesome, my hair smell this scent all the day, and it leaves my hair really smooth and shiny! The fact they aren’t silicon free bother me a little cause my hair color doesn’t last well with shampoos containing this ingredient… I tried ISM salon shampoo and I really appreciate this one, maybe much more, and it’s silicon free!
I’m waiting to received my new shampoo without silicon, wanted to try an other Japanese brand, can’t wait!

  4. I love this line. I have the red and the white sets, both are amazing in different ways. The only thing I’ve noticed is that sometimes my hair gets a bit of buildup, I assume from the tsubaki, and then I just use another brand to remove it. Other than that I think this is my fave shampoo and conditioner ever.

  5. I haven’t tried this brand before, but I’ve only heard good things about it. I’ve ordered the shampoo; can’t wait to try it out!

  6. Comparing red, white and purple which one is suitable for me? I am still confusing which color to use? Before i use white. But I never dye my hair. and my hair can happen oily so quick. and i have thick hair. Any suggestion?

  7. So I just started using Tsubaki extra moist. The red bottles are a nice change from the other products I was using. So far so good, I love how my hair is super soft from just using the shampoo. And the conditioner, love how it has a really nice scent. I live in Canada. Here in Edmonton, Alberta we have a store called T& T supermarket. It’s basically a Chinese supermarket. But has lots of products from Japan, China etc.. Anyways they have all the lines of this Tsubaki products. Some people on the reviews say they pay quite a bit of money on Amazon for this stuff. But at this supermarket, it’s only $15.99 a bottle. No complaining here!! Its a must buy, you won’t be disappointed. Chow.

  8. Thank you for such a wonderful article dear and from my side I want to say that i am using hair restore treatment from long for my hairs and its really effective. It will improve your hairs for sure so try it once people because this gentle cleansing, sulfate-free, color safe shampoo was specially created to bring relief to damaged, brittle, over processed and color treated hair.

  9. Hi Vonnie! Can you kindly share which Japanese shop do you buy online? Im quite interested knowing that they sell much cheaper than other sites. Thanks in advance

  10. Hi
I have very fine hairs, and maybe that’s why I am facing a number of hair loss strands.
I am not sure about my scalp type nor hair, but I would always wash my hair daily.
Is this really a good product suitable for me ?
I had been reading reviews for Ryeo shampoo and couldn’t decide which to try.

    I need a honest review please 😂😅

    1. Hello :) I never tried the Ryeo Shampoos but I heard that they have a really good one for hair loss and fine hair. I haven’t tried it myself though. I wouldn’t recommend this shiseido shampoo here, because it acts smoothening, so your fine hair will look even sleeker. I’m sorry, if I’m not very helpful here.

  11. Wow the price….Thank you so much for the write up. Added this duo into my wishlist basket for 2018.

  12. I love this product I’m just so lucky to be based in Taipei because my husband works with China Airlines as a pilot. It really makes my hair soft and shiny especially during the winter time and that I always have had my hair dye. I was introduced to TSUBAKI shampoo and conditioner during our trip in Otaru Japan after an hour of soaking in to one of their Onsens ( hot spring ) I had a free TSUBAKI products for my shower and it really amazed me how my hair looked so good and smelling fresh. I love love love this product and I’m glad its just around my corner!! tschuess! Ciao!!
